Find Your Pocket of
Raleigh
Raleigh isn't one neighborhood. It's dozens of them, each with its own personality, food scene, and community feel. Here's how to find the one that fits you.
One of the things that makes Raleigh special is how different each neighborhood feels from the next. You can walk from Victorian homes in Oakwood to converted warehouses in the Warehouse District in twenty minutes. Each pocket of the city has its own restaurants, shops, and community gathering spots. These are the neighborhoods we think you should know.
Oakwood
One of the best-preserved Victorian neighborhoods in the South. Think tree-lined streets, gingerbread trim, and front-porch culture. Walkable to downtown, walkable to everywhere.
Best for: History lovers, walkers, character seekers
Glenwood South
Raleigh's most buzzing district. Restaurants, bars, boutiques, and galleries line the streets. It's where the energy is on any given night of the week.
Best for: Young professionals, foodies, social butterflies
Five Points
A triangle of roads connecting three distinct areas, each with its own personality. Local shops, neighborhood bars, and the beloved Seaboard Station area make it feel like a small town inside the city.
Best for: Families, creatives, small-town feel seekers
North Hills
A modern, walkable district with upscale shopping, dining, and apartments surrounding a central park area. Think of it as Raleigh's own mini urban village.
Best for: Shoppers, diners, suburban-urban hybrid fans
Downtown / Warehouse District
The heart of Raleigh. The Warehouse District blends converted industrial buildings with new construction, home to some of the city's best restaurants, art galleries, and entertainment venues.
Best for: Urban dwellers, arts lovers, food enthusiasts
Boylan Heights
A historic neighborhood with a creative spirit. Boylan Heights has some of the best views of the downtown skyline, plus a beloved local bar (The Bird and Bear) and proximity to Dorothea Dix Park.
Best for: Artists, professionals, view chasers
Hillsborough Street / NC State
The main drag running along NC State University's campus. Classic college-town restaurants, bars, bookshops, and a lively energy, especially on football Saturdays.
Best for: Students, alumni, anyone who loves energy
Brier Creek
A well-planned suburban community near RDU airport with excellent shopping, dining, and easy access to greenways. Popular with families and frequent travelers.
Best for: Families, frequent travelers, convenience seekers
